Computer processing of acoustic and electric guitar.

Follow Bell Electric
Investigation into algorithmic composition and the Fourier Transform (Tools: Max/MSP; SONAR 3; Reason).

MUS_COMP 311, 20th Century Techniques, with Jay Alan Yim

Isorhythm means splitting a voice into two sequences: rhythmic (talea) and pitch (color). Both sequences are repeated, but since they are different lengths, the overall combination does not repeat (until the two sequences realign). Isorhythmic Sleazy Blues and Ritual use isorhythms.
In addition, Shenandoah and Ritual use flexible synchronization: the notated rhythms are not literal, and the different parts do not all need to be played at the same tempo. The notated meter and barlines are only to keep the score more readable.
Finally, please be aware that the MIDI files are terribly inaccurate. As actual recordings become available, I will put them up.

MUS_TECH 370, Sound Design For New Media, with Virgil Moorefield

Softpad
An interactive Flash audio mixing application. Right-click the track pucks for some options. Proximity to the yin-yang crossfades between two different versions of the track (this doesn't work for all sounds). For more, you'll just have to experiment. The source files are not up but if you're interested let me know and I can send them to you (requires Flash player).

MUS_TECH 321, Production in the Virtual Studio, with Virgil Moorefield

Temple Prelude
My first project for the class, and the first thing I ever composed on the computer (Tools: Logic 5).

Fear and Loathing
This is a score to the scene in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, near the beginning when the characters first enter the hotel bar (Tools: Logic 5).

Starsong
This is my final project for the class. I suppose it would be classified as ambient; I think these genre names have long become meaningless. Please note that there are synchronization problems between some of the parts that simply cannot be fixed with my current hardware. They're minor, you probably wouldn't notice them if I didn't point them out (you still might not), but there it is (Tools: Logic 5, Reaktor 4, outboard sounds on Alesis QS8.1)
