Composition (MUS_COMP 311 with Jay Alan Yim): Composition projects focusing on 20th and 21st century art music practice.

Advanced Computer Composition (MUS_TECH 441 with Virgil Moorefield): Project-based course in advanced computer-based composition techniques: algorithmic composition, audio/visual interaction, and interactive performance techniques.

Proseminar on Music and the Academy (MUS_GRD 401-3 with Maud Hickey): Music's place in academia and current pedagogical techniques.

Winter 2004

Sound Design for New Media (MUS_TECH 370 with Virgil Moorefield): Technical and aesthetic aspects of cross-platform development, culminating in the production of a fully functional DVD and Flash website.

Computer Sound Synthesis (MUS_TECH 342 with Gary Kendall): Quantitative course covering digital audio; synthesis methods (additive, subtractive, AM, FM, etc.); reverb and DSP; perceptual and aesthetic issues.

Proseminar on Critical Methods (MUS_GRD 401-2 with Candace Brower): Examination of historically important and current theoretical systems, including Schenkerian analysis, semiotics, set theory and generative theories.

Fall 2003

Production in the Virtual Studio (MUS_TECH 321 with Virgil Moorefield): Overview of current production methods (soft synths, modular synths, track automation, etc.) using Logic 6 and Reaktor 4 to create several finished projects.

Electronic Music I (MUS_TECH 325 with Stephen Syverud): Introduction to classic analog studio tools, including tape splicing(!) and the ARP 2600.

Proseminar on Critical Methods (MUS_TECH 401-1 with Tom Bauman): Investigation of important philosophical and methodological issues in music: meaning, content vs. form, gender, etc.
